reators are constantly on the move, and that means a need for gear that can keep up. You need quality products that won't fall apart minutes before your collab, and won't take up an entire suitcase.
I've spent the past year organizing events around the country, and stress testing gear to the max. I've traveled with a ton of gear, and I've packed into nothing more than my backpack. Less is more- more gear means more to manage, more to keep track of, more to drag through the airport. Here's what's in my travel bag:
The Best Cameras and Gear for Content Creators
1. Dji Pocket 3
This tiny camera packs a powerful punch and is a major step up from previous iterations. Stabilized on a gimbal, this super lightweight device is capable of filming in 4k/60 FPS. The battery life is sufficient for 60 minutes of continuous use, with an additional battery extension accessory for sale to extend it further. If you're really looking to save space, opt for the creator bundle which includes lapel microphone options! You could easily get away with this as your main camera and microphone while on the road.
2. Your phone
I'm rocking a galaxy s24 ultra, but the model doesn't as much as the camera. What you're looking for is a phone capable of filming video in 4k with 60 FPS. Want more creative content? Add more angles by adding your phone to the mix! Keep in mind that phone camera are very prone to warping around the edges, so be sure to keep the action in the center of the frame. Some of the top pornstars film on nothing more than their phones- it's all about the angle and lighting!
3. Battery bank with USB-A and C connectors
I cannot count the number of times that someone on set desperately needs to charge their phone/camera/battery/etc. Every single time, my battery bank has come to the rescue. At this point, I travel with 4 different battery banks because they are always in use. You will need it, others will need it. If you have one to spare, you will be popular!
4. EUCOS 62" Tripod for phones
Using your phone as a camera? This is the stand you've been looking for. This highly collapsible, ridiculously adjustable phone tripod has outlasted every other stand I've tried. It even comes with a Bluetooth shutter remote for taking selfies with ease! The one downside is that it is very lightweight- enough that it can be tipped over on a windy day outdoors. You can solve this by adding some weight to the bottom of the stand.
5. Lume cube
This pocket sized light will fit in the palm of your hand, but pack enough power to light up a scene! They're adjustable in both brightness and color temperature. Some models offer full RGB color too! I'll use one for tight frames, or two to fill a bed. You can plop them down anywhere convenient, or attach it to a tripod via a quarter inch screw thread. Cold shoe adapters are available via Amazon for under $10 as well!
6. LaCie Rugged External Hard Drive
This is when brand really matters- not all drives are created equal. My rugged LaCie has never failed me, despite plenty of travel abuse. It's small, reliable, and has plenty of space for storing all the content you create while on the road! Running out of space mid-shoot is a disaster. You've got a room full of people waiting, and you're frantically trying to upload on the worlds worst Wifi to make space for the next shoot. Spare yourselves, buy a drive.
Gear can truly make or break your content- so be sure to choose your gear wisely. It's an investment in your business and also a direct investment in the quality of work you're able to create. Good gear will more than pay for itself in the long run!
