came up with the idea for my zine series Bad Citizen in early 2023. I’ve always been an aspiring writer, and I’ve loved the idea of world building and curating a certain vibe. 2020 was the first time I ever did a photo shoot on film, and I fell in love with the beauty and old fashioned vibe that film gives off. I’ve always rejected all things modern, I feel like people let themselves become lazy with their art and creation as modern technology takes over more and more of the challenges associated with it.
I’ve been producing my own film photo shoots ever since then and when I started thinking about doing Bad Citizen, I had dozens of shoots with hundreds of photos just sitting around collecting dust so I wanted to do something with them. It started with writing a poem and attaching some of my film photos to it on a page.
I really loved the concept of the photos and the writing going hand in hand to create a beautiful mental image.
Then I started going through some of my older photo shoots from over the years and writing companion pieces that I thought would go together well. It all started to come together, and I couldn’t believe what I was able to create on my own. I spent months playing around with the graphic design, which photos went with which writing, the arrangement of photos, color schemes, etc. and finally I was satisfied. I released my first zine on June 21st 2023 and I was shocked at how many of my fans from over the years purchased it. I had no idea so many people who are fans of my adult industry work also wanted to hear what I had to say and see my other vision. Lots of people told me that they were looking for something like this but couldn’t find it.
I knew I wanted to keep this going as a series and do a second zine, taking everything I learned from my first one and using that to make my second one even better. This time, I produced some shoots specifically for the zine itself instead of using older photos that already existed. I had ideas for writing in mind and did shoots that I knew would blend well with what was already in my head. 2024 was a more challenging year for me, and I lost a lot of my creative spark and motivation to make anything. I didn’t know if I was going to make another zine this year at all and I decided not to pressure myself with a deadline.
I’m really happy that I was able to push through and finish Bad Citizen 2, because I’m so proud of it and excited about the growth I can see in my work.
I just always wanted to do something more than porn, I’m super proud of my porn work and everything I’ve accomplished but I knew I wanted to leave a bigger mark than just that. Making these 2 zines has been such a fun creative outlet for me. Working with photographers to bring visions to life is so rewarding and really feeds my soul. I’m excited for people to see what I’ve been working on with Bad Citizen 2, and hopefully a 3rd installment won’t be too far in the future.
